Cosmic Slop
DesigntoDivest Zine 001:
Critical race theory, disposability politics, and the true intention of design are some of the concepts explored in Design to Divest Zine 001: COSMIC SLOP. Our first ever zine explores the concepts of Afrofuturism through the lens of Funkadelic legend George Clinton’s “The Cosmic Slop,” and also features a transcription of our conversation on divestment with, “Where Are The Black Designers?” back in October 2020. This 70-page book was crafted and created entirely by our D2D team members, and it’s made available to you through our friends at Butwhole.press.
Only when equipped with a decolonized lens can we imagine a world beyond the limited reality we are presented with. Your answers may uncover routes to escape or paths twisting deeper into the cosmic slop.
Design to Divest is a Black-led collective of designers, artists, technologists and strategists designing equitable futures by divesting from inequitable institutions. Learn more at designtodivest.com.
